Summer Solstice

Step into the longest day of the year and celebrate the Summer Solstice in a truly magical setting. Join us for an evening of tradition, fire, folklore, and festivity at the Hellfire Caves and the Walled Garden Café.

What is the Summer Solstice?

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year, a time of renewal, abundance, and light. Ancient cultures across the world have celebrated this powerful turning point, honouring the sun’s peak with fire, dance, and ritual.

Central to the celebration is the Oak King and the Holly King, mythical figures representing the ever-turning cycle of the seasons. At the Summer Solstice, the Oak King, ruler of the light half of the year, reaches his height of power—only for the Holly King to begin his slow return, bringing the promise of winter’s renewal.

To honour this age-old tradition, we invite all to gather, revel, and celebrate the season together.
